The information, below, is intended to guide customers in the setup and use of the Kodak ScanMate i940 with Eaglesoft.

  1. Go to https://support.alarisworld.com/en-us/i940- scanner#Software and select on Windows (driver only) to download the installation media.
  2. Make sure the scanner's USB cable is unplugged from the computer and double select the downloaded file to start the installation. Select the Begin button to continue.

  3. Make sure Typical is checked and select Next.

  4. Select Next.

  5. The driver and SVT Diagnostics software will now install.

  6. Select Next.

  7. Select Skip and the driver installation is complete. You can now turn on the scanner and plug the USB cable into the computer.

  1. Make sure the scanner's USB cable is unplugged from the computer and insert the CD and start the installation.

  2. Select the button for Next and then select Typical.

  3. Select Next to agree to the EULA.

  4. The installation will start at this point.

  5. The screen will tell you when the driver and documentation are installed.

  6. Nothing else needs to be selected here, select Next.

  7. The installation is complete at this point and you can plug the scanner into a power source and the computer.

Profile and Power Options Setup

  1. If not already open, open the SVT Diagnostics (64-bit) App by going to the Windows Start button | KODAK SCANMATE i900 Scanners | SVT Diagnostics ( 64 bit) , choose TWAINDSM .
  2. Select the Setup icon in the upper left-hand corner of the screen.

  3. Select the scanner setup that says Default. Select the Settings > button (at the bottom of the screen).

  4. Select the Detect tab. Select Based on Document Content in the drop-down menu. Select the General tab.

  5. On the General tab, set
  6. Set Power Saver to 240; set Power Off to 240. Select Home and confirm if asked if you want to save your changes.

NOTE : each driver update release appears to change the maximum minute value these can be set to, please adjust accordingly.

  • Select Save As, then name the instance Duplex and select Save.

  • Choose the Duplex profile and move it up to the top of the list. The arrows on the right side of the profile list will move whichever profile is selected up or down.

    NOTE : Whatever Profile is at the top of the list (first listed) will be the default profile used by Eaglesoft.

    Be sure to double-check the new profile you created has the proper setup for Input document is. The Duplex profile should be set to Two Sided.

    1. Inside of Eaglesoft, go to File > Preferences > select the X-ray tab > select the Scanner button.
      1. If this button is grayed out and unclickable, please log into Eaglesoft with a user that has the permissions to make these changes.
    2. Select the KODAK Scanner i900 series device that is listed. This is the Kodak ScanMate i940's Twain driver.
      1. If you have more than one driver choice when selecting your scanner in preferences, choose the KODAK Scanner i900 driver.
    3. If the office does not have the Digital Integrations module, the scanner button should be located on the General tab.
    4. Open SmartDoc and select a patient. Under the File menu, select Acquire from Twain device .
    5. Ensure the options Enable Multi-Page and Save Images as PDF Document are checked before running your scan .
      1. Enable Multi-Page will save as a default after a successful scan.
      2. Save Images as PDF Document will have to be checked before each and every scan.
    6. To prevent errors, especially with large documents, please use the settings as shown, below.
      1. Type : 8 bit Gray Scale
      2. Resolution : 100 (or higher)
      3. Reduction : 100%
      4. Tolerance : 50

      5. NOTE: The Twain acquisition Auto Preview feature does not work with this scanner; it will cause the scan process to lock up. Eaglesoft, or the computer, may have to be restarted if this occurs.

    7. Run a scan and save it. A successful scan will save all configured settings, except the Save Images as PDF Document .

    Note : Before troubleshooting document scanning, please ensure the 'Card Feed Switch' is set to documents (slid to the left) before proceeding.

    1. Open SmartDoc | Acquire from Twain.
      • If the Multipage option is checked, uncheck it - try to scan.
      • If the Multipage option is unchecked, check it - try to scan.

    2. If the issue persists - continue below by resetting the profiles:
    3. Open the Kodak SVT Diagnostics program.
      • Windows 10/11: Start button | Kodak folder | SVT Diagnostics
      • Windows 8.1: Start button | type SVT Diagnostics to search for the program | select on SVT Diagnostics
    4. If prompted, select TWAINDSM and select OK.

    5. Select on the Setup icon in the upper left-hand corner of the screen .
    6. Delete the Duplex and One Sided - Front (if present) profiles created in Profile Setup & Power Options Instructions from above.
    7. Select the Reset button in the right corner to reset the default profiles back to factory.

    8. Use the Profile Setup & Power Options Instructions from above to recreate the Duplex scanning profile.
    9. Make the Duplex profile the first profile listed by selecting it and then using the up arrow to move to the top of the list.

    1. Open SVT Diagnostics (64-bit) or SVT Diagnostics.
    2. Highlight the Duplex scanning profile and select Settings.
    3. Open the Detect tab and set the Content amount percentage to any number larger than 1% and test.

    NOTE: Setting this too high will prevent the scanner from detecting needed pages with small amounts of text on them. Using a trial and error method, starting at 1 and increasing in increments of 1 between each subsequent test should prevent this from happening. If the paper has a watermark on it, duplex scanning may not be possible.

  • Select OK to save your changes and close out of the SVT Diagnostics program.
  • Open the other version of SVT Diagnostics to confirm the settings match.
  • Test.
    1. Open SVT Diagnostics (64-bit) or SVT Diagnostics.
    2. Highlight the Duplex scanning profile and select Settings.
    3. Select the Device button.
    4. Under the General tab, in the Document Feeder | Timeout section, make sure the On box is checked and set the seconds box to a number between 0 and 5 seconds.
    5. Select OK and Yes when asked to confirm changes.
    6. Test.

    1. Ensure profile is properly configured (see above).
    2. If the scanner uses a USB power supply, ensure it is connected directly to the computer.
    3. Disable USB Power Management on the connect computer (Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Windows 11).
      1. Right mouse click on the Windows start button and select Device Manager .
      2. Locate the Universal Serial Bus controlle r and expand it.
      3. Locate a USB Root Hub , right mouse click on it and select Properties .
      4. Select the Power Management tab and uncheck the box next to Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power , select OK and repeat for any remaining USB Root Hubs

    1. Open SVT Diagnostics (64-bit) or SVT Diagnostics.
    2. Highlight the Duplex scanning profile and select Settings.
    3. Under the Size tab, set the Post scan rotation drop-down to Automatic.
    4. Select OK and Yes when asked to confirm changes.
    5. Test.

    1. Unplug the device's USB connection(s) and uninstall the Kodak ScanMate i940 from Programs and Features. Ensure that all Kodak ScanMate i940 software is removed; this includes the Kodak ScanMate i900 Scanners software and ISIS Driver - Kodak i900.
    2. Reboot the PC.
    3. Navigate to the Programdata folder and delete the kds_i900 and kds_kodak folders, if present.
    4. Install the Kodak Scanner using the above instructions. Do not plug in any USB cable(s) until prompted to do so by the installer.
    5. Configure the scanner profile and power settings using the above instructions.
    6. Test inside Eaglesoft. If this resolves the issue, you may stop here.
    7. If the issue persists, a new Windows user will need to be tested on this computer.
    8. If the issue persists, please move the scanner to a different computer, the only "fix" we have found at this point is to reimage the computer that produces the error.
    The Function display will show device errors and the function it is set to use.

    NOTE: The function number should always be set to 1 for use in Eaglesoft. Other functions may work with Eaglesoft, however they may change the scan quality or reliability as they are designed to only be used with the Kodak Smart Touch software.

    If the scanner device has an error, a code should be displayed here. These codes can also be found in the User Guide, below.


    The Scanner has pre-programmed functions built-into it. While these are predominantly for use with the Kodak Smart Touch software, the scanner should be set to 1 when scanning from Eaglesoft. For more information, please see the Kodak Smart Touch user guide.

    Function Name Description
    0 Default SVT Diagnostic Profile This function will be shown when the data USB cable is not connected to a computer.
    1 Color PDF select this option when you want to scan a color document(s) and save it as a PDF file.
    2 Black and White PDF select this option when you want to scan a document(s) and save it as black and white PDF file.
    3 Black and White RTF select this option when you want to scan a black and white document that can be opened using a word processing application. The document will be saved as an RTF file.
    4 Color JPEG select this option when you want to scan a color photograph(s) and save it as a JPG file.
    5 Black and White Single-page TIFF select this option when you want to scan a black and white document and save each image to individual single-page TIFF files.
    6 Black and White Multi-page TIFF select this option when you want to scan a black and white document and save all of the images in a multi-page TIFF file.
    7 E-mail Black and White PDF select this option when you want to a scan a document(s) and send a black and white PDF to an email recipient.
    8 Custom Color PDF scans the document and launches the Smart Touch Editing window. When you have finished editing the image and clicked Done, the image will be displayed as a PDF file.
    9 Custom Color File(s) select this option when you want to setup the scanner settings before the document is scanned. The document will be saved as a color JPG file.
